Watch Around Water Policy
At YMCA Victoria we are a Watch Around Water endorsed aquatic safety organisation. The following information is the new watch around water policy launched in centre from 1 September 2019.
Watch Around Water is a set of industry guidelines outlining the minimum supervision requirements of young children at all affiliated aquatic venues.
Children under 5 years old
All Children MUST be accompanied into the Centre by a person over the age of 18 and supervised within arms’ reach, at all times in the water.
All children MUST wear a pink wristband supplied by YMCA staff to help identify their age while swimming.
Children will not be admitted without a full fee paying parent/guardian who must also be in the water at all times. Groups will not be admitted entry where the number of parents/guardians supervising a group of children under 5 years exceeds the ratio of 1:2 (effective September 1 2019).
Children under 10 years old
All Children under the age of 10 MUST be accompanied into the Centre by a person over the age of 18. All children MUST be actively supervised by an adult over the age of 18 at all times. The adult must have a clear and active view of the child with no physical or structural barriers between them (this includes tech and devices).
All children MUST wear a yellow wristband supplied by YMCA staff to help identify their age while swimming. Groups will not be admitted entry where the number of parents/guardians supervising a group of children under 10 years exceeds the ratio of 1:4.
What do I need to bring?
A small bag, a towel, goggles a drink bottle and warm clothes to dress in to leave is ideal.
When I book online, does my data stay in Australia?
Yes. Your personal data captured by the online booking system Nabooki, is saved on a server situated in Australia.
Are other areas of the facility open besides the lap pool?
No, not at this stage. Check the ‘reopening updates’ page on this website for the latest information.
How long do I have to swim?
Lap swimming times are available on the ‘Book a Lane’ page of this website. Once you have booked your lap swimming time, you will have one hour in the facility. We recommend you use your hour for approximately 45 minutes of swimming, allowing for time to collect your belongings and exit the centre. You must depart the centre prior to next session commencing. Please follow Lifeguard instructions who will advise you when it is time to leave the water, collect your belongings and proceed to the exit.
What safety measures are you taking to keep everyone safe?
Your safety and the safety of our staff remains our number one priority. To ensure our facility is COVID-safe and in line with the government’s health advice, we will be applying safety measures across all YMCA-managed facilities. You can find out more about our centre’s COVID-safe measures on the ‘reopening updates’ page.
Why is there only three swimmer per lane?
The centre is taking direction from state government. We are provided with information relating to the easing of restrictions on specific activities, including public swimming pools. This means a maximum of three swimmers per lane is the restriction in place during this phase.
What is the price for lap swimming?
You can find all our prices, on in the booking system above.
Payment is required at the time of booking. Bookings open 48 hours prior and close one hour prior to each Lap Swim session. You are able to change your booking up to two hours prior to your start time.
Why do existing members need to pay for lap swimming?
All existing member accounts are currently on suspension and no direct debit payments are being made. As such membership fees are not being charged, we ask that during this period, everyone uses the facility on a per use (casual) basis.
Do I need to bring my multi-visit or membership card?
No, simply provide your name and booking confirmation at the front desk and we’ll do the rest.
How do I get into the venue?
Make your way to the main entry. You may be required to wait at the doors prior to your session start time. Please use the hand sanitiser provided on entry. Follow the floor markings and line up at the front desk, keeping 1.5 metres away from others.
Can I use the changing rooms?
No – unless it is necessary to use the toilet. You are required to arrive at the centre, ready to swim. A deck coat or warm towel are the quickest way to enter and leave the facility. Showering at home before you arrive is recommended.
Why can’t I use the changing rooms?
The centre is taking direction from state government. We are provided with information relating to the easing of restrictions on specific activities, including public swimming pools. This means no use of changing rooms (unless it is necessary to use the toilet) is the restriction in place during this phase.
If I’m temperature checked and my temperature is 38 (or more) and I’m asked to leave will I get a refund?
Yes, we will provide you with a refund.
What happens if I refuse a temperature check?
Having your temperature checked is a condition of entry and we will have to ask you to leave the facility.
Why can’t I stay the full hour swimming?
This is because we need a 15 minute buffer period to ensure the facility is COVID Safe. This time allows for the cleaning of toilets, pool hand rails and end of pool lanes. This buffer will also ensure there is no cross over of customers within the pool area.
How do I leave the venue?
Staff will provide direction and there will be signage to lead the way.
